Product Description
The New 3DS is a portable gaming console from Nintendo. The original 3DS console was the first of the brand's handheld devices to be capable of displaying 3D effects without using additional accessories such as 3D glasses. The New version of the 3DS features some improvements over the original and is in direct competition with the PlayStation Vita console.
The 3DS series also includes a larger version, the original Nintendo 3DS XL and the new version of the same, which feature larger screens than the original 3DS. Those who do not want 3D functionality or would like to save a bit of cash, might consider the 2DS instead.
The original 3DS is available in black and white with block colour keys. Controls include a round circle pad, a D-pad and the classic four A, B, X and Y buttons. Bumper buttons appear at the sides. There is a slider to adjust the volume and a switch to turn wireless communication on and off. A stylus is included to operate the touchscreen; however, the user's finger works just as well.
On this new version of the 3DS, both upper and lower displays are 1.2 times larger than on the original. It is also equipped with front-facing cameras that can track head and eye movements to adjust 3D effects to your viewing angle. Battery life is also said to be somewhat longer than on the original.
The 3DS offers some fun features. Streetpass and Spotpass allow you to download and play games released on older games systems. Apps preloaded to the device include Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube as well as Swapnote, a messaging application for Nintendo 3DS users, and a Mii maker to personalise your playable characters. Nintendo’s eShop gives you access to more applications. A built-in 3D photo and video recorder includes a stop motion animation creator with editing facilities, opening up possibilities for creativity. The device can also be used to play music.
With regards to games, you're spoilt for choice. Considering this is the latest version available, all the latest Nintendo handheld releases are compatible with this device, alongside emulators for games you loved that were released on previous generation models.
